What is TMT test?
TMT test is a diagnostic test to examine the heart’s functioning under stress conditions. In this test, a patient walk on a treadmill at a specific speed and the electrical activity of the heart is recorded. The speed and incline of the treadmill are increased gradually with the duration, in order to increase the stress level and see how the heart performs.
The process is similar to ECG checkup. The patient should be bare-chest while walking on a treadmill. The electrodes are stuck on the patient’s chest using adhesive. Once the electrodes are installed, the patient is made to walk on a treadmill and the speed and incline are governed by a technician who is conducting the test.
All the readings will be recorded before performing the test such as your heart rate, blood pressure, and ECG report. The patient is asked to inform the technician, in case he/she feels any kind of discomfort during the test such as chest pain, shortened breaths or unusual fatigue. The test needs to stop immediately in such scenarios.
Once the test is performed, the patient is asked to lie down and all the readings such as blood pressure, ECG and heart rate are recorded and monitored for the next 3-5 minutes.
TMT (Treadmill Test)
It is a very effective test to observe the functioning of the heart in stressed conditions. In this technique, the patient runs on a treadmill set on a specific speed and then the behavior of the heart is observed.
Who requires TMT test?
The test is to compare blood circulation to blood in rest and stress condition means when you are under optimum physical pressure. It identifies the issues associated with the heart like CAD (Coronary Artery Disease) when coronary arteries get diseased, damaged or blocked. These are the major blood vessels that supply nutrients, oxygen, and blood to your heart.
This test also checks the condition of your heart after the heart attack and abnormal heart rhythm due to exercise. This test uses an exercise that helps to record extreme shortness in breathing, sudden weakness, dizziness and chest discomfort. It helps to monitor the heart functioning of the patients who have already had a heart attack or angioplasty.
This test is also significant for diabetics as they have more chances of CAD. Such patients may also suffer from Ischemia(silent heart muscle problems). This test can act as a lifesaver for diabetics.
